Wow, 1/3 of a year, already??? Where did this summer go? My boy is getting SO big! Still can’t believe I have 2 kids. Still can’t believe I have a BOY! Still can’t believe he was born so quickly and beautifully. Still can’t believe it’s not still April and he’s not a newborn anymore!
I think finally, after 4 months, I’m finding my groove. It was pretty rough those first few months. I never thought I would EVER feel like I had caught up. Well guess what. I’m not. But my acceptance of that has grown, and I’m realizing the importance of being still in these moments, loving my children, and making memories is FAR more important than “keeping up” with every little detail of a clean house and making sure meals are perfect. Yeah, we eat simply…I don’t spend a lot of time cooking because many times, we eat without Drew because he gets home close to bedtime, and many times, if we DO wait on him, we eat then try to spend that teeny tiny bit of time together, and I don’t want a major cleanup to get in the way of that. Also because our grocery budget doesn't really allow big fancy meals ;) So no, my house is not perfectly clean, in fact most days it is not clean at all. I look around and see crumbs on the floor, along with many toys, pictures and boxes that Arden has colored, and I seem to always be behind on laundry. We haven’t gone naked yet, so that’s the main concern ;)
Back to that boy of ours. He’s so big. He loves grabbing toys and doing “pushups”. He loves his mushroom toy, bird toy and a little noodly ball thing we have because it’s easy to grasp. Everything that he gets his hands on goes into his mouth. He loves baths, and kicking his feet vigorously while the water flies across the bathroom. It makes him laugh giddily. When he does pushups, his whole torso comes off the floor! He goes back and forth between pushups and kicking his feet like some sort of crazy tribal dance! It’s really very cute. He still scoots around on the bed, a lot…it takes him no time flat to get from the center of the bed, under the sheets, to diving off into his co-sleeper. He uses his toes and bucks his back and bottom up, while driving his forehead into the bed, and inches forward a little at a time. For how chunky he is, I feel like he moves right along! Even on his back, kicking takes him places! He’s got the sweetest, most nommable rolls you ever did nom! Arden never had rolls as a baby and I loved her exactly how she was, but baby rolls are pretty delicious too! Whenever I say “I love your chubby rolls!!!” to Thayer, Arden says “I want chubby rolls!!!” xD He's a very snuggly boy, and super happy. He hates going to sleep at night...most of the time he takes a short snooze at "bedtime" (9 pm or so), then wakes up about 30 minutes later ready to party until at least midnight! Crazy boy. Sometimes it gets the better of my patience. Arden never slept *great* at night, but she typically kept reasonable hours. But I can't ask for more, he's a super happy, healthy, and sweet baby boy and I love him with all the fibers of my being!
This morning I woke up inspired to go to a park for a picnic and found one that looked pretty nice online…so I packed up a lunch for me and Arden and off we went! It was about 20 minutes away, and Thayer fell asleep on the way, which is what I was hoping for. He wakes up super happy, no matter how short the nap, so I knew I could get some good photos. We went to Curtis Memorial County Park and found the lake…there were a bunch of begging geese when we got there that I was a little scared of…I'm not sure that geese don’t peck, so I cautiously moved in while they moved back to the water, once they realized I didn’t brink them any lunch. After taking Thayer’s pictures we went to the playground for a while, then ate a picnic lunch! I love making these memories with my precious little people.
